Tall Pines by the Bay, Hallieford, Virginia

Every now and then a bunch of writers will come together to work on our works in progress. Also known as, ‘WIPs’. I recently had the opportunity to meet up with fourteen other local authors at Tall Pines by the Bay. This is a wonderfully huge home in Hallieford, Virginia which is on the cusp of Mathews, Virginia. Located close to the Chesapeake Bay, this water front house was magnificent. I was in awe the second I walked through the door. It sleeps twenty as long as you don’t mind grabbing a bed mate, while some have a bed all to their self. A huge dining room, well stocked kitchen with all of the amenities of home and cozy living room were only a few things that made up this home. Each room was decorated as well written characters in a bestselling novel. My oh, my. And yes, I know I was supposed to be writing and before you ask, yes I did meet my writing goals for the retreat. I competed editing the last one hundred pages of my manuscript, I wrote in another thirty-five page scene that was needed and I blogged on two of my blogs. I couldn’t help finding myself daydreaming on more than one occasion, though. The back porch, which was huge, faced the water. I got lost in my thoughts sitting in the rocker and staring at the calming ripples of the water and the occasional boat or jet sky that went by. There was also a screened in porch on the side which is adjacent to the deck. The house came with a grill, charcoal and lighter fluid, bikes, kites, kayaks and so much more. Take a bike ride along the country road, stroll to the end of the private dock and sit at the end to watch the sun rise or set or if you are so inclined, there is also a small private beach area for the sun bather in you. This was one of the best writer retreats I’ve attended and one of the most relaxing places I’ve found in the state of Virginia. And did I mention the host owner left us a gift basket of Smores supplies. Writing. Relaxing. Laughter. You can’t ask for much more. I’m feeling a fall/winter retreat. Who’s game? It will only take me thirty minutes to pack. And in case you are wondering, I found Tall Pines on 'Home Away.' See you at the fire pit!
